this is from the latest newsletter from IOMTTMA

Reciprocal Health Agreement
You may have heard about the Reciprocal Health Agreement between the Isle of Man
and the United Kingdom ceasing from the 1st April 2010. This agreement entitled
visitors to both shores access to the local NHS hospital services.
The UK government has decided it no longer wishes to be a part of this agreement
and has given the Manx Government notice that it intends to cease it from the 1st April
2010.
The basic upshot of this is that visitors to the Isle of Man will, from now on, require
medical insurance to cover the cost of any hospital stay although Accident and
Emergency cover will still be 'free'. What this means is that once you are moved to
any other part of the hospital, outside of A&E, you will be charged.
Please note that this DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR COVER WHILE YOU ARE
MARSHALLING. This is, and always has been, under a separate agreement from the
ACU organisers.
Whilst the TT Marshals Association will not be recommending any particular
company or policy, we will be promoting the official Government site where details
of the changes as well as companies offering assistance will be listed.
This information will be updated on our website as and when we receive updates from
the Department of Health & Social Security here on the Island.
Their link is http://www.gov.im/dhss/reciprocal_agreement/
The information on the DHSS website is constantly changing so you are requested to
check there first before contacting the TTMA office.

TT marshal concern over ending of health agreement
Published online at 06/02/2010 07:30:00

The Isle of Man TT Marshals Association says it's receiving a large number of enquiries about the ending of the Reciprocal Health Agreement between the Isle of Man and the UK.

The organisation relies heavily on visitors volunteering to help out over the fortnight.

As in previous years, whilst on duty all marshals will be covered by a scheme organised by the Auto Cycle Union.

However, they will not be covered for on-going medical treatment if they are injured or fall ill during the rest of their stay.

Former chairman of the Association and now Press Officer Bill Carden says it is a worrying situation.

I have a company BUPA scheme valid "worldwide" but originating in Saudi Arabia. The European office is in Paris. The policy is up for renewal in March and I am not certain what sort of coverage will be the result. Everybody is trying to cut down on costs.

For "insurance" reasons, I will probably go for the IoM based GoTravelSafe offer. On-line bookings available in March.

But there again "It's not going to happen to me" Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

like S.O.F. says "It wont happen to me"! Shrek and many others know different. I recently collapsed, spent 2 days in hospital and came out with a diagnosis of Angina! i did not see that coming and i am a paramedic! if you dont want to look after yourself think about those you leave behind or who may continue to be responsible for the bill!!!
If the NHS was a business it would have been bankrupt years ago!
This year i particularly want to enjoy my TT not regret it, just edge your bets and have fun Laughing
